This drawing explores ideas of historical memory and the role of language in our societies, especially concerning who has the right to justice. It is inspired by Toni Morrison’s Nobel Lecture, where she uses metaphors of language as a bird we hold in our hands and discusses whether language is alive or dead. The texts in the drawing are from the 14th Amendment, Toni Morrison's Nobel lecture, and the Emmet-till law signed in 2022.
