Soft Landing is a sculpture of a barn owl swooping down and quietly touching down on a fence post. While it was a true balancing act to sculpt the owl in this position, I was interested in the motion and graceful shape of the bird’s enormous up stretched wings. This owl is sculpted from clay, painted with acrylic paint, affixed to a piece of ash that has been sanded, polyurethaned, and mounted on pine.
