Sleeping Stand

This is a drawing of a Curlew on their sleeping stand from my Curlew universe (I have built a world, culture and society specifically for Curlew). In the wild Curlew must employ lots of different strategies for keeping their feet warm when wading through cold water all day. If they could I'm sure they would prefer not to have to deal with cold feet so I have designed a raised platform instead. It also could be where they store their belongings like their face plates. I am inspired to create more sci-fi bird art to engage people differently from traditional wildlife drawing and to show people creatively how human culture and the natural world are intertwined and can be re-imagined in exciting new ways of storytelling. Technically I used various different graphic pencils and a Luminance white pencil to draw then I took a photo of the drawing in the sun outside to make it look like rays where falling across the Curlew, I then added more rays to the picture in Lightroom, so there is a little digital editing in the photo.
